Happy National Day Switzerland!

Since 1891 on August 1st Switzerland celebrates the Swiss National Day. 1291 three Landlords swore “UNUS PRO OMNIBUS, OMNES PRO UNO”. This Latin phrase means “one for all, all for one” in English and is the motto of the country. UNUS PRO OMNIBUS, OMNES PRO UNO is also written in the cupola of the Federal Palace of Switzerland in Bern.

1848 the Swiss Confederation was born. CH = Confoederatio Helvetica in Latin.

As a tour guide I am not only an Ambassador of Switzerland but also responsible to give accurate information about the places we do visit together.

My little cow made of wood that has been carved and painted by hand in Switzerland for generations. Happy Lilly embodies Swiss values: modern and dynamic, and yet still attached to traditions. She promotes Switzerland's image abroad through her network of ambassadors around the world and her presence on social media.

As many of you know I am exploring and discovering Saudi-Arabia. My first visit to Riyadh and Jeddah was in November 2017 with Switzerland Global Enterprise. Now, I will return again in October to explore the sights of Jeddah and its region. In March 2019 I was in Riyadh and made lifetime memories with Four Seasons Hotel Riyadh.

Saudi Arabia is a priority partner for Switzerland because of its role in the world economy, in the Muslim world and in the Middle East. In recent years the two countries have significantly improved the framework conditions for trade between them.

The first contacts between Switzerland and Arabia date back to the period before the establishment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In the 19th century, Johann Ludwig Burckhardt of Basel was one of the first Westerners to visit Mecca.

The two countries established diplomatic relations in 1956.

The Saudi National Day is on September, 23.

Switzerland has an embassy in Riyadh and an honorary representation without consular authority in Jeddah. Saudi Arabia has an embassy in Bern and a permanent mission in Geneva.

The Swiss community in Saudi Arabia is 342 strong. (FDFA)

Did you know…?

Saudi Arabia is the largest country in the world without a river - Switzerland has more than 1’500 lakes and the sources of the Rhein, Rhone, Ticino (Po) and Inn (Danube) are found in Switzerland.

Even if the water is scarce in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, agriculture is operated there. The cultivation of cereals, fruits and vegetables is possible with the help of artificial irrigation. Dairy cows are kept in large, cooled stables and sprayed with water at a certain temperature, so they do not overheat. The largest integrated dairy farm in the world is in Saudi Arabia.

In Switzerland …

· we do have around 700’000 cows. Popular breeds are the Fleckvieh, Braunvieh and Holsteiner.
