AROSA is a summer and winter season destination in Graubünden the largest canton of Switzerland. It borders with Italy, Austria and Liechtenstein and is the only officially trilingual canton and the only canton where the Romansh language has official status. When you want to say assalamu alaikum or hello then say “Allegra!” and you will earn a big smile!
Arosa from Chur (capital and largest town of the canton) is around a 1h train ride away and is a final destination in the Valley of Schanfigg located at 1800 meters above sea level. There are 365 curves in the road from Chur to the charming little mountain village Arosa. If you don’t like curves I recommend to take the train, especially during the Winter season. From Chur it departs every hour and in Winter season it is the best option to take. The Arosa Line climbs 1000 metres in 26 kilometres. The Landquart designer outlet is just 10 minutes away from Chur. It offers over 160 designer brands in a beautiful village centre, and is also open on Sundays.
But thanks to its location it is not only a Winter holiday paradise but also a Summer destination with long sunshine days. The climate in Summer is not too hot and nature is amazing. With two lakes, different shops and modern infrastructure it has become one of the top destinations in Europe. Summer or winter, Arosa has a lot to offer for everyone! And, Landquart Fashion Outlet is only 1h by car.

The Tschuggen Grand Hotel 5* Superior
I took the train from Chur to Arosa and was picked-up on my arrival at the train station by the Chauffeur of the Tschuggen Grand Hotel. He was holding a board with my name, welcomed me friendly and after a short drive we reached the Tschuggen Grand Hotel, which is located less than five minutes away and a little bid elevated from the centre of the village.
I felt genuine hospitality from the very first step entering into the lobby. The staff members and Mr. Stefan Noll, the General Manager, smiled and welcomed me friendly. After my check-in a hotel staff escorted me to my suite no. 806 and the porter brought my luggage to my room. The suites are all located in the 7th or 8th floor. This spacious and bright suite (85sqm) has two balconies and a bedroom with an all-white comfortable extra-large and extra-length double bed (2 x 100cm x 210cm), floor-to-ceiling wardrobes (you will not have a storage problem), a separate relaxion area including a double sofa bed, a round table with chairs and two bathrooms with heated floors, one with bathtub and both with a luxury rainforest shower and bath towel heater. The view from the suite is spectacular and light and space create the right atmosphere to make sure you feel you are arrived at the right place! The General Manager, also put a handwritten note on the table with some welcome goodies. The suite has all what you need to make you feel home away from home: A Nespresso coffee machine, a minibar, complimentary water bottles, two LCD satellite TV, a safe, free Wi-Fi, and different luxury magazines.
The Restaurants are:
· Grand Restaurant daily changing menus served in an elegant setting
· La Vetta award winning fine dining (1 Michelin star and 16 Gault-Millau points)
· The Basement fine fast food restaurant
· La Collina day time restaurant with sun terrace
I was welcomed by the waiter and he suggested me a table with a nice view. I had a look at the Menu and discovered Foccacia & Wraps. My choice was a pulled venison wrap with red cabbage salad, pumpkin, rocket and mountain cranberry sour cream.
The wrap was served in under 15 minutes. It was cut in half at a 45-degree angle on a plate decorated with some green salad leaves and made a tasty lunch.
Later in the afternoon I got to know closer the room and suite types, the Bergoase Spa by Mario Botta and leisure facilities and services they offer at the award-winning Tschuggen Grand Hotel.
After the tour I was invited by the General Manager for dinner at The Basement. Here they serve fast fine food and the ambiente is typically Swiss with all the nice wood but has also an American touch. The Menu ranges from the best burgers in Arosa and steaks to fresh salads and the famous local cheesecake. Fish & chips and meals for vegetarians are also listed on the menu.
The Basement is great for families and children as the Junior Club is located directly opposite. This is the paradise for the youngest guests because there they will have everything they could wish for. It is open daily and is for children 3 years and up. But it is also a great location if you have a team event and wish to build up a group dynamic. From 9pm you also play bowling.
Every Tuesday night, traditional Swiss dishes Fondue & Raclette will be served at the Restaurant.
Returning to Suite 806 I noticed that during my absence they put everything in place again, folded my clothes and my nightdress was also awaiting me on my bed with a card wishing me unique moments, a little box with a chocolate and the breakfast room service menu “every morning starts with a good breakfast“. I decided to have my breakfast in my room and placed my order on the outside doorknob.
I slept heavenly and woke up next morning well relaxed.
At 8:30am the breakfast was delivered to my room on a rolling table with perfect settings.
At 10 am I was booked for a 50 min. facial treatment in the award-winning Bergoase Spa by Mario Botta. Then on my agenda was an excursion to the skiing and hiking area of Arosa Lenzerheide with the private mountain railway the Tschuggen Express.
About the Spa
The Spa is a highlight and won several awards. The Bergoase by Mario Botta is an architectural art work.
You will find the Spa on the 2nd floor and have to cross a bridge before you are at the Bergoase reception. In addition to their cosmetic and massage treatments, they offer also a selection of wellness baths and do have also a gym. Two private Spa Suites are also available (Muscida 70sqm and Polaris 100sqm).
Read here about my 50 min. facial treatment experience:
I was punctually welcomed by the friendly professional cosmetician at the SPA reception. First, I had to fill out a questionnaire to make sure I don’t have any allergies and get the right treatment.
Then the cosmetician and I went to the treatment room and she asked me, if I feel comfortable and started to analyse my skin. She told me what she will do during the next 50 minutes and what products she will use. I got a Clarins aromatic treatment and felt the gentle touch of tender hands. A beneficial facial massage was the most pleasant way to relax my soul. The result was a smooth and soft, well-hydrated skin.
Clarins is internationally well-known by the production of smells and of skin care products.
I highly recommend the Bergoase SPA - it is a real oasis for body and soul. Have a look at the Spa Menu.
